For a few years now we have joined our family of friends for New Year's Eve. One year, before any kids, we had an NCAA-style beer pong tournament, complete with inappropriate team names and, although we play beer pong with water to keep the carpets clean and not get germs (yes, I know how old that makes me sound), excessive drinking. Last year part of the group was away in Scotland so 4 of us (2 pregnant and 1 kid) had a quiet New Years Eve performing modified
Bonenkai traditions and in bed by 9.
This year we had the perfect hybrid of the previous 2 years. We made an excessive amount of tapas, had a pre-midnight celebration around 7 for the kids complete with Hogmanay-style "singing" of Auld Lang Syne (we're very multi-cultural), spent a majority of the evening putting kids to bed, watched The Hangover II, and had a little champagne at midnight mixed with leftover sparkling cider from the earlier kids celebration.

Eating at a table for 6 with 5 adults and 3, soon to be 4, kids at the table is a squeeze so we ate separate on this occasion, although we normally make it work for typical family dinners

Hogmanay celebrations - according to Aunt L & Uncle M in Scotland everyone stands in a circle, sings Auld Land Syne, and jumps up and down. We found the song to be way to slow for jumping so Big B jumped in slow-motion

Not sure how this evolved, but A decided all the kids were to wear monkey pajamas for New Year's Eve
